John Goldie’s Biography

He Started playing guitar around six years of age, initially self-taught, gradually progressing to playing in Rock and Blues bands around twelve years old. Around this time studied music theory and harmony with a local tutor and also got involved with the dance band scene.

Whilst playing a function gig John was spotted by the musical director of a visiting Motown act from the U.S.A. and asked to be guitarist on their next UK tour. This was to be the start of many tours and work as a session player including CD’s Radio, TV Shows etc. A chance meeting with Jazz guitarist Martin Taylor and a subsequent invitation to perform together led to a dramatic change in direction career wise.

Not only did this collaboration lead to the award winning group Spirit of D’Jango, several CD’s tours and concerts at elite Jazz venues like Ronnie Scott’s, but was also the spark which ignited the solo career John now enjoys.

Whilst developing a solo repertoire John also wrote material for his own Trio, recording the acclaimed CD Turn and Twist with tours and festivals following. Whilst on the road John started writing material for a solo CD. The material was purely acoustic and after hearing a couple of demo tracks John was invited by Peter Finger over to Acoustic Music in Germany the premier acoustic label in Europe to record a solo acoustic guitar CD.

This album of original compositions and quirky takes on popular tunes received critical acclaim in the UK, USA and Europe. John has also attracted the attention of two of the biggest companies in the acoustic world, Martin Guitars and A.E.R. Acoustic Amplifiers. John is a proud endorsee of these products.

The release of “This Time and Place” follows this natural progression, and whilst drawing on his own Scottish and Jazz influences, places his music at the forefront of accessible virtuoso acoustic guitar. With a mixture of new compositions and well known tunes, the CD has already started to gain plaudits for its originality and quality of production, and looks set to bring John Goldie and his music to a much wider audience.
